After an impressive journey through multiple rounds of competition, Team NoName from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering 1, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT), advanced to the Final Round of the Hanoi MCU–FPGA Design Contest 2026, held at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST). With thorough preparation, confidence, and strong technical expertise, the team successfully secured Second Prize in the final competition.

Team NoName consists of two students:

Under the supervision of M.Sc. Vuong Viet Thao, the team researched and developed the project:

“Design of a CNN Hardware Accelerator on FPGA Integrated with a RISC-V PicoRV32 Core for Real-Time Edge-Based Environmental Sound Recognition.”

The project focuses on developing an intelligent embedded system capable of performing sound recognition directly on the device. The CNN accelerator is implemented on FPGA to enhance processing speed, while the RISC-V PicoRV32 core is responsible for controlling and coordinating the operation of the entire system. Deploying the AI model at the edge reduces dependence on remote servers, minimizes response latency, and makes the system well suited for applications requiring real-time processing.

Beyond demonstrating the team’s ability to implement AI algorithms, the project highlights the effective integration of FPGA-based digital hardware design, RISC-V architecture, embedded systems, and Edge AI. These technologies are attracting significant attention in the semiconductor industry, intelligent devices, and next-generation computing systems.

Winning Second Prize in the Final Round is a well-deserved recognition of the students’ dedication, passion for research, and persistent efforts throughout the competition. This achievement also demonstrates the capabilities of students from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering 1 – PTIT in highly technical competitions involving integrated circuit design, FPGA technology, and embedded systems.
